Retrograde planets during 2021 and their meanings

Retrograde planets during 2021 and their meanings

Retrograde planets are a kind of a dark cloud over our heads. This is especially true for Mercury, considering the fact that it usually retrogrades three times a year. It makes us all lose our heads for three weeks or so each time. Retrograde motion of planets is actually only apparent. They slow down so much that their motion appears as backwards when compared to other planets in the sky. The fact that they are slow influences their and our behavior and puts emphasis on a not-so-good side of their symbolism.

As we’re looking into the beginning of Pluto retrograde motion this week, here is the list of all retrograde planets during 2021 and their meanings:

Mercury
January 30 to February 21
May 29 to June 22
September 27 to October 23
In retrograde motion, it always brings delays, unforeseen obstacles, and minor quarrels. The best thing to do is be prepared for all kinds of small “accidents” happening out of the blue. There is nothing you can do about it. When Mercury retrogrades, everything slows down. Plans get cancelled, most of the actions need to be repeated… The good thing about it is that is only lasts about three weeks at a time.

Venus
December 19, 2021 to January 29, 2022
Venus goes retrograde less often than Mercury. But, the events it brings are more serious, especially regarding love, relationships, and marriage. If you’re planning a wedding, make sure your wedding date isn’t during a Venus retrograde. Its retrograde motion lasts a bit longer than Mercury’s, but it’ll be worth the wait.

Jupiter
June 20 – October 18
The planet of luck, expansion, and prosperity retrogrades every year and brings some repercussions. Even though it’s considered to be the planet than brings only fortunate events, it may bring exaggeration in food, so also excessive weight. Plans may be going well and then bring some unwelcome additional events. Too many people may come into your life.

Saturn
May 23 - October 11 in Aquarius
Also called the great (strict) teacher, Saturn brings harsh lessons and sadness. In retrograde motion, this translates to prolonged periods of anxiety, depression, and sometimes even despair. Make sure you check if the transit Saturn is making harsh aspects to your natal personal planets. If it does, that may explain your feeling of hopelessness.

Uranus
August 20, 2021 – January 18, 2022
A slow moving planet that brings unexpected events, shocks, and surprises. Its effects are more prominent on a mundane level than on the personal. However, if it is transiting over one of your personal planets, you will indeed experience some sudden events, depending on the house it is transiting through and other aspects.

Neptune
June 25 – December 1 in Pisces
Neptune is a distant and very slow planet that has very little influence on a personal level. Yet, as with Uranus, if it is transiting over one of your personal planets, you will experience some changes. The changes will mostly be on the internal level. Sometimes it may give vivid dreams, depending on your chart placements.

Pluto
April 27 – October 6 in Capricorn
Pluto has been demoted to dwarf planet and as other slow planet it usually has very little effect on a personal level. To experience the effects of a Pluto transit, your natal planets must be in exact aspects to the transit Pluto. If they are, you will go through a deep transformation.
